Meet the Moderators: CVan65
Ever wonder how a retired school teacher that has never swung a golf club can become a top VR golfer?
Part of what makes GOLF+ so unique is our dedicated and passionate players. The GOLF+ Discord is a thriving community filled of players actively trying to improve their game, help our team test upcoming features or just find others to play a round with. To help keep this space organized and informed, we rely on some of our most educated and influential members to moderate the forum. Meet CVan65!
I Thought: "This is going to be HUGE."
You may be asking yourself: "how does a school teacher that has never played golf in her entire life become a GOLF+ player?"
CVan65, a former Computer Science teacher, says she's been playing golf video games since the old "Links" days on PC. When Pro Putt (what is now GOLF+) was originally released in 2020 and she was able to get her hands on a Meta Quest headset, she was hooked from the start.
"Golf is such a great game to play on a flat screen," said CVan65. "But once it came into VR it was just amazing."
As one of the original Discord members - she notes that while the community was quite active and passionate back then, it was no where near the size as it is now - she was able to access the beta version of what would come to be GOLF+, and knew instantly that full course VR golf would be the future.
"Once I got into the Beta and started playing, I thought to myself: 'Wow. This is going to be huge!"
The "Unofficial" Guide to GOLF+
As a moderator of the Discord community, CVan65 fields a lot of questions from new players and members. After noticing many of the same questions pop up, a thought came to her.
"I thought it would be nice if we had a repository of information so I could lead people there and they could go and read what they want to know about the game."
With that thought, the "Unofficial Guide to GOLF+" was born in November 2023. Her site, which she says began as an outlet to review and document the various club attachments on the market, has evolved into a treasure chest of information for GOLF+ players both rookie and veteran.
From the basics of getting started to information about various online leagues and tournaments, this page should be bookmarked for all GOLF+ players!
The Most Enjoyment Comes from Multiplayer
CVan65 notes that while she does enjoy the competition of the GOLF+ TOUR events, the most fun comes in those multiplayer rounds with friends.
"I love to just watch other people's shots. Just to be there in a group setting is my favorite part."
It's Amazing what you can Learn just by Watching
After mentioning that her favorite course is TPC Sawgrass, CVan65 highlights the real world parallels between GOLF+ and the PGA TOUR as the most satisfying aspect of the game.
"We watch the pro golfers on television and immediately go: 'Oh I know that bunker, I've been in it a thousand times," she says. "I've never been on a golf course in my life... but it's amazing once I got the game how much you pick up from just watching professional golf."
