Why Omni La Costa Has Become College Golf’s Biggest Stage

While the best collegiate golfers in the world are battling for a national championship this week in Southern California, GOLF+ players can start looking ahead to their chance to take on the same venue.

We’re excited to announce that the North Course at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa will be coming to GOLF+ on June 17.

Located in Carlsbad, California, Omni La Costa has long been one of the most recognizable names in American golf. The property hosted PGA TOUR events for more than 30 years and has welcomed some of the biggest names in the game. Today, the North Course stands as the home of NCAA Division I Golf Championships, hosting both the men’s and women’s national championships from 2024 through at least 2028.

A Modern Championship Venue

Although La Costa’s history stretches back decades, the course that players see today is largely the result of a dramatic transformation completed in 2024.

Renowned architect Gil Hanse, alongside design partner Jim Wagner, led an extensive renovation of the North Course in preparation for its new role as the permanent home of college golf’s biggest stage. The project reimagined nearly every hole, introducing new green complexes, reshaped bunkering, strategic playing corridors, and championship-caliber conditions designed to identify the best players in the country.

The result is a course that rewards precision and thoughtful shot-making rather than simply overpowering the layout. It’s quickly earned a reputation as one of the most demanding tests in collegiate golf.

The NCAA Championship Is Happening Right Now

The timing couldn’t be better.

This week, 30 of the nation’s top men’s programs have converged on Omni La Costa for the 2026 NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championship. After four rounds of stroke play, the field has been narrowed to the final eight teams who advanced to match play: Auburn, Vanderbilt, Texas, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss, Arizona, Virginia, and Florida. Match play will determine the national champion over the final two days of competition.

Fans can watch the championship live on Golf Channel and through Golf Channel’s streaming coverage, with quarterfinals, semifinals, and the national championship match taking place at Omni La Costa through June 3.

A Look Back at the Women’s Championship

Just last week, Omni La Costa hosted the NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Championship, once again showcasing why the course has become one of the premier championship venues in collegiate golf.

The event culminated with Stanford capturing the 2026 NCAA Women’s Golf National Championship after entering match play as the top seed following a dominant stroke-play performance. Throughout the week, the renovated North Course challenged the nation’s best players with firm conditions, demanding green complexes, and difficult scoring opportunities that rewarded precision and patience.

The championship also produced one of the week’s most memorable individual performances when Florida’s Siuue Wu fired a remarkable 64, tying the NCAA Championship scoring record at Omni La Costa.
